You Will Soon Be Able to Delete Your Threads Account Without Leaving Instagram

Meta is planning to introduce a new feature for Threads, their text-based social media platform, that will allow users to delete their Threads accounts without affecting their Instagram accounts. Currently, when a user deletes their Threads account, their Instagram account is automatically deleted as well.

Threads, launched by Meta in July, aimed to compete with Twitter and quickly gained millions of downloads within just five days of its release. Users could easily create Threads accounts if they were already Instagram users by logging in with their Instagram credentials.

However, the inability to delete a Threads account without also deleting the associated Instagram account was a significant drawback. According to reports, Meta intends to address this issue by the end of the year.

Meta’s chief privacy officer for product, Michel Protti, explained that enabling this feature was a complex challenge, but the company is working to ensure that users can exercise their deletion rights. This may involve deactivating the Threads account, setting it to private, or deleting individual threads while keeping the Instagram account intact.

This upcoming change will provide Threads users with more control over their accounts and privacy, making it easier to manage their presence on the platform.
