YouTube is making a big change that will affect how millions of people discover what’s popular on the platform. The company has announced that it will soon say goodbye to its well-known ‘Trending’ section, which has been part of YouTube for nearly a decade.
For years, the Trending page has shown people a quick look at videos that are getting lots of views worldwide. But YouTube now believes that the way people watch videos has changed a lot since it first launched this feature back in 2015.
Instead of one single list of viral videos, YouTube will now guide viewers to ‘YouTube Charts’, a new option that will show top videos based on different categories, such as music, podcasts, and movie trailers. YouTube says this makes it easier for fans to see what’s hot in their favorite topics instead of scrolling through one big mixed list.
More categories are expected to appear soon. For gamers, trending gaming videos can now be found at the bottom of the Gaming Explore page.
In a recent blog post, YouTube explained that trends today come from many different communities and interests, so a single trending list doesn’t work well anymore. The platform hopes that YouTube Charts will help people follow what’s popular in a way that feels more personal and relevant to them.
The change will roll out in the next two weeks, so users should get ready to explore trends in a whole new way.
