Zahir Jaffer Files for Presidential Mercy After Supreme Court Upholds De@th Penalty

Zahir Jaffer, the man found guilty of murdering Noor Mukadam in July 2021, has now submitted a plea for clemency. This request comes after the Supreme Court of Pakistan upheld his death sentence earlier this year in May. The clemency plea is considered his last legal option to try and avoid execution.

According to Pakistan’s legal process, any clemency request must include a psychiatric evaluation of the prisoner. This is done to check whether the person is mentally fit and aware of their actions and punishment. Without this assessment, the plea cannot be processed.

In response to this requirement, Adiala Jail officials have written to the authorities, asking them to form a medical board. This board will be responsible for examining Zahir Jaffer’s mental health and submitting a report. The findings of this report will play an important role in deciding whether or not the clemency request will be considered.

Zahir Jaffer’s case has drawn widespread public attention, both in Pakistan and internationally. The tragic murder of Noor Mukadam, a young woman from Islamabad, sparked protests, calls for justice, and discussions around women’s safety in the country. Her family and supporters have continued to demand full justice for her.

Now, with the clemency plea under review, the case once again returns to the spotlight, as people wait to see what decision will be made in the final stage of this long legal battle.
