1 in 9 Children in Pakistan’s Flood-Hit Areas Suffering from Severe Malnutrition: UNICEF

According to the UN report, one in nine children under the age of 5 yrs are admitted to health camp as Pakistan’s flood victims are found to be suffering severe acute malnutrition.

As per the report shared by UNICEF alerted that the health camps have reported an alarming rate of severe acute malnutrition in children in southern Sindh and southwestern Balochistan provinces, as they were the two worst hit regions in havoc floods.

Moreover, 22000 children had been checked by health professionals since September at health camps in flood regions. However, more than 2,630 were diagnosed with severe acute malnutrition.

Severe acute malnutrition is also known as malnourishment as it’s a life-threatening condition where children are under weight for their height which resulted as weak immune system.

Latest National Nutrition Survey shows that around 1.6 million children could suffer from severe acute malnourishment and are in dire need for treatment in flood-hit areas of Sindh and Balochistan, as report stated.
