10 Year Old Dearborn Native Makes History as the First Female Hijabi Jiu-Jitsu World Champion

Meet Aaminah Abdrabboh, a 12-year-old girl from Dearborn, who has made history in the world of jiu-jitsu. She proudly wears her hijab while competing and recently achieved a gold medal at the PAN Kids IBJJF Championship, the world’s largest jiu-jitsu tournament.

Aaminah’s passion for jiu-jitsu started at the age of seven, and despite the challenges she faced, she persevered in competing with her hijab. The International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation had previously banned hijab-wearing women from participating, but that ban was lifted in 2014, allowing Aaminah to showcase her talent and become a champion in her category.

Her victory has inspired many and proves that anything is possible while wearing a hijab. Her family, especially her parents, Mohammad and Nancy, are incredibly proud of her determination and success.
