100 Million Trees to be Planted in Balochistan and Its Coastal Areas: Malik Amin Aslam

Malik Amin Aslam, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Climate Change, said the government was taking measures to promote the tourism and forest sectors, and that Balochistan was the best area for natural beauty conservation.

He told reporters at Quetta Press Club that the country’s goal of planting 10 billion trees was being met through a public-private partnership.

Forest Secretary Siddique Mandukhel, PTI Information Secretary Muhammad Asif Tareen, and Amjad, the founder of the Taraqee Foundation, were also present.

Malik Amin Aslam said Pakistan was among the top ten countries most affected by climate change and famine as a result of decreasing rainfall, adding that increasing temperatures have harmed Balochistan and that tree planting is needed to mitigate the impact.

He claimed that a plan had been launched to achieve the goal of planting 100 million saplings in Balochistan and its coastal areas, as well as in the Quetta region, to help promote the forest sector. He also reported that efforts were being made to expand the Chilghoza forest in Balochistan’s monsoon areas.

Trees are being planted on the sides of 70 dams in Balochistan, and the Clean Green project in Balochistan includes six cities, he said.

According to the SAPM, a waste water treatment plant will be operational soon, and the tourism sector will be supported as part of the Prime Minister’s vision.
