Moonsighting in Pakistan has been quite controversial and amusing as well in past years. However, Pakistan government has proposed a bill stating 3-year jail or Rs 50,000 fine on false information regarding moon sighting.
As per the bill, the unauthorized parties operating moon-sighting will face Rs 50,000 fine, and those providing false testimony may face either a 3-year jail or hefty fine. The bill addresses the concerns regarding credibility of moon sighting on important events especially the holy month of Ramzan and religious festivals of Eid.
The decision was essential as in the past, there have been concerns among people about false reporting.
