762,000 Pakistanis Moved Abroad for Jobs in One Year

Official data from Pakistan’s Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BEOE) shows that 762,499 Pakistanis left the country in 2025 to find better jobs. This is an increase from 727,381 in 2024.

Many young people are leaving because of high unemployment, rising prices, and few good job opportunities at home. Most migrants are laborers and low-skilled workers who go for construction and other manual jobs. However, more than 18,352 highly qualified professionals also migrated. These include doctors, engineers, IT experts, managers, and nurses.

Saudi Arabia was the top destination, followed by the UAE, Qatar, Oman, and the UK. Gulf countries remain popular because they offer higher salaries and better living conditions for Pakistani workers.

Pakistan receives billions of dollars in remittances every year from these workers. In recent years, remittances have helped the country’s economy by supporting families and adding to foreign reserves. However, experts warn about the growing brain drain. Losing skilled doctors, engineers, and IT professionals hurts the country’s development in health, education, and technology sectors.

The government is trying to create more local jobs, but economic challenges continue to push people abroad. Many families depend on money sent from overseas, yet the long-term loss of talent remains a serious concern for Pakistan’s future.
