In Abu Dhabi, 10-year-old Messed Salim AlKhuzaimi rushed from school to Expo City Dubai with a unique creation – ‘Mr COP,’ a green-eyed robot. Weighing under 1kg and standing at 1.5ft, Mr COP, made from cardboard and an old RC toy car, carries an eco-message.
Accompanied by his mother, AlKhuzaimi, using a remote control, guides Mr COP through Expo City’s Green Zone, spreading the word on recycling and the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Fluent in both Arabic and English, AlKhuzaimi shares the importance of addressing climate change and protecting the environment.
Mr COP’s mission is two-fold: to encourage young people to recycle and raise awareness about the SDGs. Despite initial plans for a solar-powered Mr COP, AlKhuzaimi, undeterred by delivery delays, plans modifications to utilize the abundant sunlight in the UAE.
Sending a message to his peers, AlKhuzaimi urges action, emphasizing that the younger generation must contribute, even in small ways, to make the world a better place.
