Dr. Umar Saif, the Caretaker Federal Minister of Information Technology, has outlined a plan to provide interest-free loans to businesses in Pakistan. The objective is to establish 10,000 specialized e-employment centers, catering specifically to the needs of the 1.5 million freelancers in the country.
In a video message, Dr. Saif addressed the challenges faced by Pakistani freelancers and emphasized the initiative’s focus on creating dedicated workspaces for them. To support this, the government intends to assist the private sector in transforming real estate into these specialized e-employment centers by offering interest-free loans for this purpose.
The overarching goal is to generate employment opportunities for approximately a million freelancers, potentially contributing to an annual income of around $10 billion. This initiative not only aims to boost the freelance sector but also to stimulate economic growth by leveraging the potential of the digital workforce in Pakistan.
