On Tuesday, Quetta Gladiators made an announcement that Rilee Rossouw will be the captain for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9 instead of Sarfaraz Ahmed. Sarfaraz, who led the team to three finals and helped them win the title in 2019, will now only play as a wicketkeeper-batsman in this year’s edition.
Both Rilee Rossouw and Pakistan’s Saud Shakeel were considered for the captaincy, but the team decided to go with the experienced South African batsman, who played a big part in Quetta Gladiators’ PSL victory in 2019.
The owner of Quetta Gladiators, Nadeem Omer, confirmed that Sarfaraz wanted to step down from the captaincy for a while. This decision was made after discussions with the new head coach, Shane Watson, and the team management.
Nadeem also said he’s happy to have Shane Watson back in the team, praising his great performance in 2018 and 2019. He also called on Kevin Pietersen to consider joining the team again, saying it would be like getting the old Quetta Gladiators family back together.
