Indian PM Narendra Modi Congratulates New PM of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on assuming office once again. Modi conveyed his felicitations to his Pakistani counterpart through a post on the social media platform X, where he said, “Congratulations to CMShehbaz on being sworn in as the Prime Minister of Pakistan.”

This message from Prime Minister Modi comes a day after Shehbaz took the oath of office in a prominent ceremony held at the President House in Islamabad. During the ceremony, President Arif Alvi administered the oath to Shehbaz Sharif. The event was attended by various political leaders, including PPP leaders Asif Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, IPP President Abdul Aleem Khan, and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, among others.

Shehbaz Sharif’s election as the 24th Prime Minister of Pakistan for a second time occurred on Sunday during an election in the National Assembly. He secured 201 votes, defeating Sunni Ittehad Council-backed PTI candidate Omar Ayub Khan, who received 92 votes. National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq officially announced the results, declaring Shehbaz Sharif as the Prime Minister of the 16th National Assembly and the leader of the Lower House of parliament.

Previously, Shehbaz served in the position for approximately 16 months as part of the multi-party coalition PDM government following the removal of Imran Khan through a no-confidence motion.
