Former Pakistan Test fast bowler Mohammad Amir has registered for the Afghanistan Premier League draft as a British citizen, with sources saying he will not require Pakistan Cricket Board clearance to participate.
British passport changes clearance requirement
Sources say Amir has obtained a British passport and now holds the legal status of a British citizen. On that basis, they say, he does not need a no-objection certificate from the PCB for the league.
Other Pakistani players have also registered
Media reports name several other Pakistani players among those who have signed up for the draft:
- T20 captain Sahibzada Farhan
- Fakhar Zaman
- Shan Masood
- Maaz Sadaqat
The PCB, however, has decided against issuing no-objection certificates to Pakistani players. That puts their clearance position in contrast with Amir's reported status as a British entrant.
Draft scheduled for November 3
The Afghanistan Premier League player draft is due to take place on November 3, following the November 2 report of Amir's registration.
