Pakistan Army to Train National Cricket Team in 10 Days Training Camp

Pakistan’s cricket team is set to undergo a ten-day training camp with the Pakistan Army from March 25 to April 8, as announced by PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad. The purpose of the camp is to enhance the players’ fitness levels following the conclusion of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Noticing a decline in players’ fitness during the PSL matches, Naqvi emphasized the importance of improving it, especially with upcoming fixtures against New Zealand, Ireland, England, and the T20 World Cup on the horizon. The training camp will be held at the Kakul military academy, with the Army providing assistance in conducting the sessions.

However, some players may have reservations about the timing of the camp, as it coincides with the busy cricket season and overlaps with the Ramadan period, where fasting can impact energy levels. Despite potential concerns, past experiences with military training camps have shown positive outcomes, such as Misbah-ul-Haq’s notable performance after participating in one before a series against England.

Naqvi also urged players to prioritize national commitments over participation in lucrative T20 leagues, citing instances like Haris Rauf’s refusal to join Pakistan’s Australia tour. He emphasized personal sacrifices for the greater good of representing Pakistan and highlighted the PCB’s commitment to investing in cricket development, including player fitness, training, and coaching at all levels.
