Watson Reportedly Demands Monthly Salary in Millions for Pakistan Coaching Role

Shane Watson, a former Australian cricket star, is currently coaching the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). However, despite the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) interest in having him coach the national team, it seems unlikely due to Watson’s demands for a significant salary package.

This demand, which amounts to millions in Pakistani rupees, indicates that Watson may not be fully interested in accepting the coaching position, possibly because of concerns about being away from his family for extended periods.

The PCB, facing limited options for coaching candidates, is eager to secure Watson’s services. However, given the high salary demand, reaching an agreement with him appears improbable.

Meanwhile, other contenders for the coaching role include Mike Hesson and Daren Sammy. Hesson, currently coaching Islamabad United, and Sammy, coaching Peshawar Zalmi, are also being considered.

Although discussions with Hesson have begun, he has not yet provided a positive response and has requested additional time for consideration.

Under the leadership of Mohsin Naqvi, the PCB is keen on appointing a strong coaching staff for the national cricket team. However, attracting well-known coaches presents a challenge, as many are already committed to various leagues worldwide.

In response to the vacancy, particularly before the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand at home, the PCB is exploring the possibility of appointing local coaches alongside foreign consultants.

This approach aims to ensure continuity and expertise in coaching while considering the constraints posed by the availability and preferences of potential candidates.
