Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has hinted at the possibility of stepping into the realm of politics, expressing his eagerness to serve the people of his country.
In a recent media interaction, the 47-year-old cricketer revealed his aspirations, stating, “I am considering entering politics to contribute to the betterment of Pakistan, although my elders have cautioned me against it.”
Afridi stressed the significance of individuals like himself participating in politics to bring about positive changes. He believes that without the involvement of people with his background, achieving significant transformations in the country would be difficult.
Speaking about recent developments in the national cricket team’s leadership, Afridi disclosed that he had consistently advised his son-in-law, Shaheen Shah Afridi, against taking on the captaincy role.
“I always advised Shaheen against becoming captain,” Afridi mentioned, highlighting his efforts to dissuade the young cricketer from shouldering such responsibilities and encouraging him to focus on improving his game.
Afridi recounted his advice to Shaheen regarding the captaincy offer from Lahore Qalandars, expressing disappointment that his counsel was not heeded. Despite the setback, Afridi remains determined to pursue his political aspirations and contribute to Pakistan’s progress.
