WAPDA Offering Job Vacancy in Pakistan

The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) is offering an exciting job opportunity for a qualified and experienced professional as the Head of the Environmental and Social Management Unit for the Tarbela 5th Extension Hydropower Project. The position is based in Tarbela, Pakistan, and requires an individual with a strong background in environmental and social management.

Job Position and Eligibility Criteria

  • Position: Head of Environmental and Social Management Unit
  • Location: Tarbela 5th Extension Hydropower Project, Tarbela
  • Qualification: Candidates should have a Master’s or Honors Degree in Environmental Sciences, Sociology, or Social Work from an HEC-recognized university. Preference will be given to candidates with an M.Phil or MS Degree (18 years of education).
  • Experience: A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience working on mega hydropower projects, infrastructure development projects, or international donor-funded projects is required.

Job Details

  • Tenure: The position is on a contract basis for one year, with the possibility of extension based on the individual’s performance and organizational needs.
  • Pay Package: The monthly salary is Rs. 400,000, which includes all perks and privileges.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Head of the Environmental and Social Management Unit will have several key responsibilities:

  • Reviewing and implementing contractors’ environmental and social management plans.
  • Guiding the implementation of the Community Development Assistance Program (CDAP).
  • Organizing and monitoring activities related to land acquisition and resettlement.
  • Serving as a convener or member of grievance redressal committees.
  • Monitoring compliance and suggesting mechanisms for financial payments, incentives, or penalties.
  • Reviewing progress reports and holding meetings with monitoring staff from the World Bank.
  • Conducting social baseline surveys to identify vulnerable communities.
  • Interacting with stakeholders and addressing their concerns.
