The Pakistan Hajj Mission (PHM) has fined six catering companies a total of SAR 263,580 ($71,000) for not meeting meal service standards for Pakistani Hajj pilgrims in Makkah. This year, the PHM is responsible for overseeing 70,105 pilgrims and has employed nine catering firms to ensure they are properly fed. Since May 9, over 55,990 pilgrims have arrived in Makkah.
Pakistan’s total Hajj quota is 179,210 pilgrims, out of which 70,000 are participating under the government scheme. The fines were imposed on the catering companies for various violations, including providing meals that were either unclean or not served on time.
To ensure the safety and quality of the food provided to the pilgrims, the caterers were selected through a competitive bidding process. The PHM closely monitors the food quality, with the daily menu offering a variety of Pakistani and continental dishes to cater to the diverse tastes of the pilgrims.
Additionally, the PHM has put measures in place to address any complaints from the pilgrims promptly. This is facilitated through digital apps that allow pilgrims to report issues and get them resolved quickly. These efforts are part of the PHM’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and comfortable experience for all Pakistani Hajj pilgrims in Makkah.
