On Thursday, Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman presented the provincial budget for the financial year 2024-25 during an assembly session. Following the federal government’s budget announcement, Punjab revealed its own budget proposal, totaling Rs5.4 trillion for the next fiscal year.
A notable highlight of the provincial budget is the allocation of Rs. 2.5 billion for undergraduate scholarships. This initiative aims to support higher education for deserving students across the province, making education more accessible and affordable.
However, the budget presentation was not without controversy. Opposition members visibly protested by tearing the budget documents during the session, signaling their discontent with the proposed financial plan.
Despite the opposition’s protests, the scholarship program stands out as a significant effort by the Punjab government to invest in the education sector, offering financial assistance to thousands of undergraduate students and fostering a brighter future for the youth of the province.
