PepsiCo Plants Seeds of Prosperity for a Resilient Agricultural Sector in Pakistan

PepsiCo Pakistan recently held a thought leadership event, “Seeds to Smiles,” which brought together key stakeholders, including Eugene Willemsen, CEO of PepsiCo for Africa, Middle East & South Asia (AMESA) as well as International Beverages and Mohammad Khosa, CEO of PepsiCo Pakistan. The event focused on the company’s initiatives to promote Pakistan’s food security.

Central to PepsiCo Pakistan’s strategy is empowering farmers through the provision of innovative technologies and enhancing capacity building. 50,000 farming families across 35,000+ acres of land have been trained in modern agricultural practices. This includes access to technology & inputs such as high-yield potato seeds produced locally in the company’s Tissue Culture Lab, precision planters for optimized seed placement, and impact recording devices for data-driven decision making that monitor post-harvest produce quality. These efforts aim to enhance agricultural productivity and farm efficiency.

PepsiCo Pakistan is also promoting the adoption of regenerative agricultural practices. This encompasses techniques such as the use of cover crops and crop rotation to improve soil health. Additionally, the company is facilitating water conservation through the installation of solar-powered tube wells and high-efficiency irrigation systems.

A data-driven approach to agriculture is another key aspect of PepsiCo Pakistan’s strategy. Farmers have been equipped with weather monitoring stations to access real-time data and informed decision-making tools.

The event also highlighted the company’s social impact programs, such as She Feeds the World (SFtW) which have positively impacted 173,000 community members. By supporting women farmers and improving the livelihoods of rural communities, these programs contribute to a more inclusive and sustainable agricultural landscape.

By investing in innovative technologies, sustainable practices, and capacity building for farmers, PepsiCo Pakistan is demonstrating its commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s food security. The company’s focus on collaboration with stakeholders underscores its vision to enable a robust and sustainable agricultural value chain in the country.
