Pakistan’s Rice Exports Hit All-Time High of $3?89 Billion in 2023-24

Pakistan’s rice exports have reached a historic high, amounting to $3.89 billion, largely due to favorable weather conditions and the availability of essential farming inputs.

Shehzad Ali Malik, the founder of the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP), announced this remarkable achievement while introducing Malik Faisal Jahangir as the new chairman of REAP, elected without opposition.

Between July 2023 and June 2024, Pakistan successfully exported over 5.8 million tonnes of both Basmati and non-Basmati rice varieties. This accomplishment marks a major boost for Pakistan’s economy, showcasing the strength of its agricultural sector.

Under Jahangir’s leadership, REAP aims to increase the annual rice exports to $5 billion. The plan includes focusing on seed research and encouraging the use of good agricultural practices. While the target is ambitious, the current success in rice exports makes it a realistic goal for the future.

This continued growth is expected to have a positive impact on Pakistan’s economy, positioning the country as a major player in the global rice market.
