Punjab Excise and Taxation Department Announces Registration Fees For Cars

The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department, responsible for vehicle registration, plays a vital role in managing vehicle records and collecting taxes in the province. This department registers both locally manufactured and imported vehicles, ensuring that a complete and accurate database is maintained. This database helps in tracking and monitoring vehicles for a variety of purposes, including ensuring compliance with regulations and promoting road safety.

After completing the registration process by paying the required excise fee, vehicle owners receive important documents like registration certificates and official number plates. It’s crucial for owners to keep these documents safe, especially if they plan to sell their vehicles in the future.

The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department has outlined a clear fee structure for the registration of new vehicles. For motorcycles with engine capacities up to 150cc, there is a fixed registration fee. However, for motorcycles above 150cc and all other types of vehicles, including cars, the registration fee is calculated based on the vehicle’s total value.

For example, if you are registering a car with an engine capacity of up to 1000cc, the department charges 1% of the vehicle’s value as a registration fee. So, if the vehicle is valued at Rs2.5 million, the fee would be Rs25,000. For vehicles with engine capacities between 1000cc and 2000cc, the fee increases to 2% of the vehicle’s value. If your vehicle exceeds 2000cc, the registration fee is 3% of the total value of the car.

This structured approach not only simplifies the registration process for vehicle owners but also ensures that records are maintained efficiently. The system also clarifies the costs involved in registering different types of vehicles, which helps owners understand their obligations and ensures compliance with provincial regulations. Overall, the work of the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department contributes to effective vehicle monitoring and tax collection, supporting the smooth operation of transportation systems across the province.
