PM Shehbaz Writes Letter to US President Biden for Dr Aafia’s Release

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reached out to US President Joe Biden, asking for the release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani neuroscientist who has been in prison in the United States for 16 years.

In his appeal, PM Shehbaz stressed the importance of compassion, stating that it is his duty to look after Pakistani citizens, especially in cases like Dr. Siddiqui’s. He urged President Biden to use his constitutional powers to grant clemency to her, highlighting the need for kindness and understanding in her situation.

Dr. Siddiqui was convicted on charges related to terrorism and has been a controversial figure, with many advocating for her release on humanitarian grounds. PM Shehbaz’s appeal reflects the ongoing concern for her well-being and the desire of many in Pakistan to see her returned home.

This request is not just about one individual but also underscores the broader issue of how Pakistani citizens are treated abroad. The Prime Minister’s intervention shows his commitment to defending the rights of his fellow citizens, even in challenging international circumstances.

By appealing to President Biden, PM Shehbaz hopes to initiate a dialogue that could lead to a more compassionate resolution for Dr. Siddiqui.
