PM Announces100MW Power Supply and Rs.1 Billion Fund for Gilgit-Baltistan

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced an immediate provision of 100 megawatts of electricity for Gilgit-Baltistan, along with a significant Rs1 billion endowment fund to support university students, on Wednesday. This announcement came during a special meeting with the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) cabinet, held as part of his one-day visit to the region. At the meeting, the prime minister shared his satisfaction with the timely completion of the Bubar Model Village, a housing project he inaugurated for those affected by the 2022 floods. He emphasized that the completion of this project marks an important step in the region’s recovery and development, providing much-needed support to flood-impacted families.

Additionally, the prime minister directed the GB administration to prioritize development projects in the Ghizer district, calling for improvements in educational institutions, sports facilities, power transmission, and other essential infrastructure. Alongside the 100-megawatt power supply, he introduced a merit-based endowment fund valued at Rs1 billion to benefit students at Baltistan University and Karakoram University. This initiative aims to increase educational access for talented students, giving them resources to pursue higher education and contribute to the region’s growth.
