OGDCL Discovers Gas Reserves in Lakki Marwat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The Oil and Gas Development Corporation Limited (OGDCL) has announced an exciting new discovery of gas and condensate reserves in the Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These reserves were found at the Betani exploration well, marking a significant achievement for Pakistan’s energy sector.

This discovery is particularly noteworthy as it is the first time hydrocarbons have been discovered in the Samanasic formation within the Wali Block. According to OGDCL, the newly discovered reserves are estimated to produce 2.14 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, along with 74 barrels of condensate daily.

The discovery adds to OGDCL’s list of successful exploration projects in the region. Earlier in March 2024, the company had identified oil and gas reserves in the Kohat Block, also located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

This latest find is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s energy resources and contribute to meeting the country’s growing demand for natural gas and energy products. It highlights OGDCL’s ongoing efforts to explore and develop the country’s hydrocarbon potential, which is critical for supporting economic growth and reducing reliance on energy imports.

The discovery has been welcomed as a positive development for the region, and experts believe it will boost Pakistan’s energy sector while opening new opportunities for exploration in untapped areas. Further details and plans for developing these reserves are expected in the coming months.
