Pakistan Becomes 3rd Largest Sesame Exporter in the World

Pakistan has become the third-largest exporter of sesame in the world, with exports exceeding $1 billion annually, according to a government announcement. This growth was highlighted during an international sesame investment conference, where the Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, praised the progress of the crop. Over the past five years, sesame production has increased by 455%, reaching a total of 1.119 million tons per year.

The value of sesame exports has also risen significantly, with a 366% increase, now totaling $1.073 billion. This remarkable success is largely attributed to the National Oilseeds Enhancement Program (NOEP), as well as strong cooperation between federal and provincial agricultural departments.

In addition to this, Pakistan and Turkey have signed an agreement to enhance agricultural cooperation between the two countries. They plan to work together on joint ventures in areas such as mechanization, aquaculture, and irrigation.

The partnership aims to boost trade and share technological advancements to improve both agriculture and livestock sectors in both nations.

These developments highlight the growing importance of agriculture in Pakistan’s economy, especially in the production and export of sesame.

The collaboration with Turkey is expected to further enhance agricultural practices and help Pakistan maintain its position as a leading sesame exporter. This cooperation could also pave the way for future advancements in farming techniques and trade relations between the two countries.
