Free Solar Panel Scheme; How to Check your Application Status

The Punjab government has launched a free solar panel scheme aimed at providing relief to electricity consumers struggling with rising power costs. The initiative, spearheaded by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, was officially announced on December 6, 2024, and targets households consuming between 100 to 200 units of electricity per month.

The program, designed to promote renewable energy and ease the financial burden on low-consumption electricity users, has received significant interest. With the last date to apply set at January 5, 2025, applicants are now encouraged to check the status of their applications through various methods.

How to Check the Application Status?

The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) has developed a dedicated online portal to help applicants track their status seamlessly. Below are the steps to check the application progress:

  1. Visit the official portal: https://cmsolarscheme.punjab.gov.pk/
  2. Log in using the registered email and password.
  3. Navigate to the ‘Application Status’ section on the dashboard.
  4. The application status will be displayed as:
    • Under Review – The application is being processed.
    • Approved – The application has been accepted.
    • Rejected – The application did not meet the eligibility criteria.

Alternative Methods to Check Status

For those who cannot access the online portal, the government has provided additional methods to check application status:

  • Helpline Support: Applicants can call the dedicated helpline and provide their CNIC or reference number to receive an update on their application.
  • SMS Notifications: Individuals who applied via SMS will receive regular status updates on their registered mobile numbers. It is advised to keep the confirmation message for reference.

Scheme Details and Impact

Under this initiative, 100,000 solar panel systems will be distributed in Punjab in 2025. The scheme offers:

  • 550-watt solar systems to consumers using up to 100 units of electricity monthly.
  • 1100-watt solar systems to consumers using up to 200 units monthly.

The project is expected to significantly reduce electricity costs for eligible consumers while promoting environmental sustainability. According to official estimates, the reduction in carbon emissions through this initiative is expected to be around 57,000 tons annually.

Transparency and Security Measures

To ensure fairness in the selection process, the Punjab government has introduced a computerized balloting system to choose beneficiaries. Each applicant’s reference number and CNIC-linked electricity bill will be verified before the final allocation of the solar panels.

Additionally, the government has implemented security measures to prevent theft or misuse of the solar panels. The solar systems and inverters will be linked to the beneficiaries’ CNICs, ensuring that only the rightful owners can use them.

A Step Towards Renewable Energy

Authorities have emphasized that this initiative will not only provide financial relief to households but also reduce the federal government’s subsidy burden on electricity. By encouraging solar power adoption, Punjab is taking a significant step towards renewable energy solutions, reducing dependence on traditional power grids, and fostering a more sustainable future.

For further details and assistance, applicants can visit the official portal or reach out via the helpline.
