Punjab Launches 27 Electric Buses in Lahore to Serve 17,000 Commuters Daily

Punjab has launched a pilot project with 27 electric buses in Lahore to help reduce pollution and save on fuel costs. These eco-friendly buses will start operating from February 16, serving around 17,000 passengers daily.

The buses will run on a 21km route from Green Town to Lahore Railway Station. The government has invested Rs2.4 billion in this project, marking a major step toward cleaner public transport.

Imported from China, these buses come with modern features, including GPS, Wi-Fi, USB charging ports, security cameras, and ramps for people with special needs. A dedicated compartment for women ensures a safer journey.

To make commuting easier, passengers can use digital wallets and a mobile app for payments and route tracking. This modern payment system aims to improve convenience and efficiency.

The Punjab government plans to expand the project further, with a goal of introducing 620 electric buses across the province. This initiative is expected to reduce air pollution, lower transportation costs, and provide a better travel experience for the public.

With increasing traffic and pollution in major cities, electric buses offer a sustainable solution for urban transport. If successful, this project could serve as a model for other cities in Pakistan. The government remains committed to promoting green energy and improving public transport facilities.
