Chinese artificial intelligence firm DeepSeek has begun operating through Aramco Digital’s data centres in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, marking another significant development in the kingdom’s expanding AI infrastructure, company officials announced on February 9.
The expansion coincides with DeepSeek’s recent release of its DeepSeek R1 model, which has demonstrated capabilities comparable to OpenAI’s technology while achieving notably lower development costs. This technical achievement has positioned DeepSeek as an emerging competitor in the global AI landscape.
The company’s decision to establish operations through Aramco Digital’s state-of-the-art facilities underscores Saudi Arabia’s increasing prominence as a regional hub for artificial intelligence development. This move aligns with the kingdom’s broader strategy to diversify its economy and establish itself as a leading technology center in the Middle East.
