Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has introduced a Bone Marrow Transplant Card to provide free treatment to patients in the province. This initiative aims to ensure that no child is deprived of life-saving medical care due to financial difficulties.
So far, 150 successful bone marrow transplants have been carried out at Lahore’s Children’s Hospital. This hospital is the first public-sector facility in Pakistan to offer these transplants. The procedures have helped not only patients from Punjab but also those from other parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The Punjab government covers the cost of each transplant, which is over Rs4.2 million per patient. Despite the high cost, the government remains committed to funding these treatments so that families do not have to bear the financial burden.
The success rate of bone marrow transplants at the hospital is over 89%, which matches international medical standards. This achievement highlights the efficiency and expertise of the medical teams performing these complex procedures.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized that children’s health is a top priority, and the government will continue to provide resources to expand healthcare services. She reassured families that no child will be left untreated due to a lack of money.
The introduction of the Bone Marrow Transplant Card is a significant step toward improving healthcare in Punjab. It reflects the government’s commitment to making advanced medical treatments accessible to all, giving hope to families struggling with serious illnesses.
