The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that most plain areas of the country will face intense heat from June 18 to June 20. The department has advised people to take the situation seriously and prepare for extremely hot weather during this period.
The alert points out that the high temperatures could pose serious health threats, especially to certain groups such as young children, senior citizens, laborers, and people living without proper shelter or electricity.
According to the PMD, the extreme heat could lead to heatstroke, dehydration, and worsen breathing or heart-related illnesses.
Apart from health risks, the heatwave may also have serious economic effects. The soaring temperatures could cause electricity demand to shoot up, crops to dry out faster, and even threaten the survival of animals in dry and rural regions due to lack of water and shade.
To help reduce these dangers, the PMD has recommended that people limit outdoor work or travel during peak heat hours from 11 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon. It also advised people to drink plenty of water, wear light cotton clothes, and protect their heads with caps or cloth when outdoors.
Citizens are also encouraged to stay in shaded or cool areas as much as possible and to stay alert through community updates, especially in case of power failures.
With temperatures expected to remain dangerously high over the coming days, the PMD has urged the public to act responsibly and take preventive steps to stay safe during the heatwave.
