A resolution submitted to the Punjab Assembly has proposed new rules to better protect children on social media.

Lawmakers believe that while social media offers many educational and communication benefits, children should be protected from the dangers that may exist online.
They say proper safeguards and responsible use of digital platforms are necessary to ensure that young users can enjoy the benefits of the internet safely.
At this stage, the proposal is only a resolution and has not become law. It will need further discussion and consideration before any legal changes are introduced.
If approved, the federal government would be asked to prepare legislation that sets clear rules for social media use by children under the age of 16 and strengthens online protection measures for minors across Pakistan.
