Married Women Can Now Choose to Display Father’s or Husband’s Name on CNIC

NADRA has introduced new and important changes to Pakistan’s identity system, making it more modern, secure, and user-friendly.

One of the most empowering updates is for married women. Now, they have the right to choose whether they want to display their father’s name or their husband’s name on their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC). This gives women greater control over how their identity is represented and is a positive step toward personal freedom and choice.

Other key improvements focus on making identity verification stronger and more reliable. Biometric requirements for children have been upgraded, making their records more secure from an early age. NADRA has also officially recognized the Family Registration Certificate (FRC), making it easier for families to manage and prove their official relationships.

The system now includes a clearer way of defining different types of families. This helps avoid confusion and ensures everyone’s information is recorded accurately. People can also correct or update their records more easily, either by visiting a NADRA office or using mobile applications, which saves time and effort.

To handle identity issues faster, special verification boards have been formed. These boards will help solve problems more quickly and ensure that no one’s identity is wrongly challenged or delayed.

Finally, the new identity cards are made with Teslin material and come with advanced features such as QR codes and information printed in both Urdu and English. These smart cards are not only more durable but also easier to use in both local and international settings.

Together, these updates represent a major step forward for NADRA and for the citizens of Pakistan. They aim to make the identity system more transparent, secure, and accessible for everyone, while especially supporting women’s rights and modern family structures.
