Pakistan has launched a national Gender-Responsive AI School to promote fair, ethical, and inclusive use of artificial intelligence. The initiative is led by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT), in partnership with UN Women Pakistan and supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
The programme aims to improve AI knowledge among policymakers, government officials, parliamentarians, academics, civil society groups, businesses, and community leaders. Participants will learn about AI basics, ethics, governance, privacy, bias, and the responsible use of AI.
Pakistan has also become the first country in South Asia to host the full national UN Women AI School Training of Trainers programme. The programme will help develop local trainers who can share AI knowledge and gender-responsive practices with others across the country.
The initiative comes as Pakistan works to strengthen its digital economy and expand AI skills. It also supports efforts to ensure that women and girls have a stronger role in the country’s digital transformation.
UN Women has stressed the importance of including gender issues in AI policies and development. The new school aims to help policymakers and other stakeholders understand how AI can affect women and men differently and promote technology that benefits society more fairly.
