Good News! Heavy Rain Expected in These Cities of Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has announced the arrival of the season’s first major monsoon spell, expected to impact large parts of the country starting from June 25, 2025. The department has also issued alerts for potential flash floods, urban flooding, landslides, and other rain-related hazards during this period.

According to the PMD, moist currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal have already begun entering the upper and central parts of the country. These currents are expected to intensify over the coming days. In addition, a strong westerly wave is likely to reach the northern areas of Pakistan by June 25, gaining further strength on June 26, which could lead to widespread heavy rainfall across several provinces.

Widespread Rain Predicted Across Regions

Azad Kashmir & Gilgit-Baltistan

Regions such as Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Rawalakot, Bagh, Kotli, Mirpur, and other parts of Kashmir are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with wind and thunderstorms from June 24 to July 2. In Gilgit-Baltistan, areas like Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Diamir, and Astore may experience rain and thunderstorms from June 26 to June 29.

Punjab & Islamabad

From June 25 to July 1, moderate to heavy showers with wind and thunderstorms are forecast in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Mianwali, and many other districts. Southern Punjab districts such as Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Rajanpur can expect rain from June 26 to June 28.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The province will see widespread rainfall across most districts including Swat, Dir, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Kohat, and Dera Ismail Khan from June 25 to July 1, with possible breaks between spells.

Balochistan

Rainfall is expected in northeastern and southern regions, such as Sibbi, Loralai, Kalat, Lasbela, Khuzdar, Naseerabad, and Dera Bugti from the night of June 25 through June 28.

Sindh

Upper and southeastern districts like Sukkur, Larkana, Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas, Thatta, Badin, and Karachi are also likely to receive rain with wind and thunderstorms between June 25 and June 28, with short breaks in between.

Flash Flood and Urban Flood Risks

The PMD has warned of flash floods in mountainous and vulnerable areas such as Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Dir, Swat, and Kohistan, especially from June 26 to July 1. Urban flooding is also a concern for major cities like Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Nowshera, Peshawar, Hyderabad, and Karachi during this wet spell.

Additionally, landslides are possible in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, which may lead to road blockages and disruptions in travel.

Risk to Infrastructure and Daily Life

The heavy rains, combined with strong winds, lightning, and thunderstorms, could damage weak infrastructure, especially Kacha houses, electric poles, billboards, solar panels, and vehicles. Daily life, particularly in urban centers and rural settlements with poor drainage systems, may be significantly affected.

Safety Advisories and Government Action

Farmers are advised to adjust their agricultural activities according to the forecast to minimize crop damage. Tourists and travelers have been urged to stay alert and plan their trips carefully, particularly in northern and hilly areas prone to landslides and flooding.

Government departments and disaster response agencies have been placed on high alert, with directions to implement preventive measures and ensure the safety of life and property during the anticipated heavy monsoon activity.

The PMD continues to monitor the situation and will issue updates as the system progresses. Citizens are encouraged to stay informed and follow official advisories throughout the spell.
