Public Holiday Declared Across this Province in Pakistan

The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has declared a public holiday across the province on the first day of Muharram, in order to mark the beginning of the Islamic New Year.

This announcement was made through an official notification issued by the provincial authorities. The holiday will be observed on the 1st of Muharram, 1447 Hijri, but the exact date will depend on the sighting of the new moon.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is responsible for announcing the sighting of the moon, and they are scheduled to meet today. Once the moon is sighted and the date is confirmed, the first day of Muharram—and the public holiday—will officially be observed.

The Islamic New Year holds religious importance for Muslims around the world, and the beginning of Muharram is often observed with prayers, reflection, and remembrance. By declaring a holiday, the provincial government aims to allow people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to properly observe the start of the new Islamic year with respect and peace.

The final confirmation of the holiday will be made once the moon is officially sighted by the committee.
