Second Most-Produced Fruit! Pakistan Produces 1.8 Million Tons of Mangoes Annually

Pakistan grows around 1.8 million tons of mangoes every year, making it the country’s second most-produced fruit after oranges. Mangoes are not only a source of national pride but also an important part of the country’s agriculture and exports.

This season, Pakistan plans to export 125,000 tons of mangoes, mainly to markets in the Middle East, with a revenue goal of $100 million. However, the journey hasn’t been easy. In recent years, mango production has dropped by nearly 25%. The main reasons include extreme weather conditions, such as heatwaves and water shortages, as well as regional issues that make exporting more expensive.

Despite these challenges, exporters are hopeful. They believe better water management and exploring new markets like Japan, the United States, and China can help increase sales. The government and private sector are also working to modernize farming methods and grow mango varieties that can survive harsh climate conditions.

Pakistan’s mangoes are famous worldwide for their sweetness and rich flavor. With more focus on sustainable farming and smart export strategies, the country hopes to not only protect its mango industry but also grow it further.

Efforts are ongoing to strengthen the agricultural sector through technology, training, and improved supply chains. These steps aim to ensure that mango farming remains a strong contributor to the economy and a symbol of Pakistan’s rich agricultural heritage.
