2 Underpasses & a Flyover Worth Rs. 7.3 Billion Approved for Two Districts in Punjab

The Punjab government has approved several major infrastructure projects to help reduce traffic problems and improve road safety in the cities of Rawalpindi and Mandi Bahauddin.

These projects were approved during the second meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) for the 2025–26 financial year, held on Friday. The meeting focused on key development plans to improve city traffic and make roads safer for both drivers and pedestrians.

In Rawalpindi, two new underpasses will be built. One will be located at GPO Chowk and the other at TM Chowk on The Mall. These underpasses are expected to reduce traffic jams in some of the city’s busiest areas and make travel easier for commuters.

Another important project is the construction of a pedestrian underpass near the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC). This will allow people to cross the road safely without interfering with the flow of traffic, especially in an area with high foot traffic.

Mandi Bahauddin will also benefit from infrastructure upgrades, although specific details of the projects in that city have not yet been shared.

These new projects are part of the government’s wider efforts to modernize infrastructure, reduce traffic pressure, and improve public safety on roads. By approving these developments, the Punjab government aims to make everyday travel smoother and safer for residents.

Construction is expected to begin soon, and once completed, these upgrades will provide long-term benefits for people living in and traveling through these busy areas.
