June 2025 has officially been recorded as the hottest month ever in 12 countries, including Pakistan, Japan, and Nigeria, according to data from Copernicus, the European Union’s climate monitoring service.
Around 790 million people across Europe, Asia, and Africa faced extreme heat during the month. Pakistan and several countries in Central Asia also experienced their warmest spring season on record, showing how fast temperatures are rising across the region.
In Europe, temperatures were 3°C higher than usual, causing widespread concern. Japan reported record-breaking heat on both land and sea, while neighboring countries like South Korea, China, and North Korea also broke past temperature records.
In Africa, nations such as South Sudan and Nigeria came close to or even exceeded their previous extreme heat levels. These rising temperatures have made daily life harder in many areas, affecting health, agriculture, and power supply systems.
Climate experts say these intense and frequent heatwaves are a direct result of global warming. As greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise, the planet’s climate is becoming more unstable, leading to dangerous weather events like heatwaves, floods, and droughts.
Scientists are urging world leaders to take serious and urgent steps to cut emissions and invest in clean energy. Without strong action, heatwaves like the one in June 2025 are expected to become more common and more severe in the coming years.
