In the Middle of 27 Lives Lost, One Quiet act of Humanity Stood Out.

As recovery operations continue at Lyari’s 8-Chowk building collapse site—where 27 lives have been confirmed lost and one rickshaw driver remains missing—rescue teams from SIEHS 1122 have worked tirelessly through the wreckage. Among those recovered was 39-year-old Daya Lal, who, despite being pulled out and rushed to Civil Trauma ER, couldn’t survive his injuries.

But even in that moment of loss, the team’s compassion didn’t end. EMTs Shaikh Qadeer, Faizullah, Evo Allah Bux, and DM South Shoaib Ahmed Bhatti ensured every personal belonging retrieved from the rubble—cheques worth Rs. 15 million, Rs. 8,000 in cash, bike papers, CNIC, and several important documents—was safely handed over to his brother-in-law, Naraish. In a city grieving its dead, this quiet act of honesty and care offered a small but powerful reminder: even in tragedy, there are those who still carry humanity forward.
