Work has started on the upgradation of Dera Ghazi Khan Airport to prepare it for international flight operations, Power Minister Awais Leghari said during an inspection visit to the airport.
The project has been allocated Rs. 5.5 billion and is scheduled to be completed by January 2028. The development is expected to improve the airport’s facilities and strengthen air connectivity for the region.
During his visit, Awais Leghari reviewed the progress of the ongoing work and received updates from officials regarding the project. Teams from the Civil Aviation Authority are carrying out improvement work at the airport, including the expansion of the runway.
The planned upgrades are aimed at bringing the airport’s infrastructure in line with requirements for international flight operations. Improvements to airport facilities and other related infrastructure are also part of the development work.
The project could provide residents of Dera Ghazi Khan and nearby areas with greater access to international air travel. At present, passengers from the region often have to travel to larger cities to access international flights.
The upgraded airport could also support economic activity in the area by making travel easier for businesspeople, overseas workers, tourists and other passengers. Better air connectivity can help strengthen links between regional communities and destinations within Pakistan and abroad.
The development is also expected to improve the airport’s capacity to handle passengers and aircraft once the necessary work is completed.
Civil Aviation Authority teams are continuing construction and technical work as part of the project. Authorities are expected to monitor progress to ensure that the planned improvements are completed within the scheduled timeline.
With a completion target of January 2028, the project represents a major infrastructure development for Dera Ghazi Khan. Once the required upgrades are completed and regulatory requirements are met, the airport is expected to be positioned to handle international flight operations.
