Punjab to Bring Back Board Exams for Grade 8 Students
The Punjab government has decided to restart board exams for students in Grade 8. This important decision was made in a recent meeting led by the province’s Education Minister, Rana Sikandar Hayat.
Board exams for Grade 8 were stopped five years ago, but now the government has chosen to bring them back as part of efforts to improve the education system and better evaluate students’ learning.
During the meeting, Rana Sikandar Hayat shared that while only Grade 8 students will sit for board exams, students in Grades 5, 6, and 7 will go through internal assessment tests instead. These internal tests will be designed and managed by schools to check students’ performance and progress in a structured way.
The education minister also gave clear instructions to the education authorities. He asked them to create a strong and proper internal assessment system for Grades 5 to 7 and to complete this task within one month. The goal is to ensure that students are regularly and fairly tested in order to help improve learning standards in schools.
The meeting further discussed ways to make the internal exam system stronger for students in Grades 5 through 7. Officials agreed that better evaluation methods are needed to truly understand how students are performing in different subjects.
This step by the Punjab government shows a renewed focus on student achievement, accountability, and improving the quality of education in the province.
