PCB has revealed a 17-player squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 and the tri-nation series in the UAE. This time, Salman Ali Agha has been appointed as the captain of the team.
Notably, two of Pakistan’s biggest cricket stars, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, have not been included in the squad, which has caught the attention of many cricket fans.
The selected team features a mix of experienced and young players. The list includes Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Hasan Nawaz, Hussain Talat, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Haris, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Wasim Jr., Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Salman Mirza, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Sufiyan Muqeem, along with captain Salman Ali Agha.
The tri-nation series is set to kick off on August 29 in Sharjah, where Pakistan will face Afghanistan in the opening match. The series will also include another team, and it aims to help participating sides get in form before the Asia Cup.
The Asia Cup will take place in the UAE from September 9 to 28. This tournament is always important for South Asian teams, as it not only brings regional rivals together but also provides preparation ahead of bigger international competitions.
PCB’s decision to rest or exclude top players like Babar Azam and Rizwan shows that the board is experimenting with new combinations and giving opportunities to other players. It will be interesting to see how this squad performs in both the tri-series and the Asia Cup.
