The UK Three Peaks Challenge: What It Means for Pakistan’s No.1 PHEV
A standard production JAECOO J7 SHS-P covered 469.5 miles across Scotland, England and Wales on 24.3km/litre! It is a result that speaks directly to Pakistan’s concerns about fuel cost and long-distance driving
A standard, unmodified JAECOO 7 SHS-P plug-in hybrid has set a Guinness World Record for the lowest fuel consumption while completing the UK National Three Peaks Challenge in a plug-in hybrid production SUV. The record, achieved in the United Kingdom, is a strong proof point for the same Super Hybrid technology that powers the JAECOO J7 SHS-P in Pakistan, where it is positioned as the country’s No.1 plug-in hybrid (PHEV), supported by NexGen Auto and Nishat Group.
What the record involved
The National Three Peaks Challenge is one of Britain’s best-known endurance tests: climbing the highest mountains of Scotland, England and Wales, Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), while driving between them. For the record attempt, TV presenter Ben Shephard climbed all three peaks, while Kevin Booker and Sam Clarke shared the driving.
The route covered 469.5 miles (about 756 km) over motorways, mountain roads and country lanes. The drive continued through the night, in rain, sunshine and high winds. Across the journey, the JAECOO 7 SHS-P returned a remarkable fuel consumption of 68.7 mpg, or 24.3 km per litre!
A thoroughly verified result
The RAC witnessed the sealing and reopening of the fuel filler and the charging port, Webfleet telematics and GPS tracking recorded the journey, summit evidence was collected, and a Guinness World Records adjudicator confirmed the result. The vehicle was a standard production JAECOO 7 SHS-P with no modifications.
As with any record attempt, the result reflects the conditions and method of this specific challenge. The 68.7 mpg figure is not the car’s official WLTP figure, and real-world results will vary with driving style, terrain, temperature and how often the battery is charged.
The technology behind it
The JAECOO 7 SHS-P uses the Super Hybrid System Plug-in (SHS-P), which combines a petrol engine with electric power. It offers up to 56 miles (about 90 km) of electric range and can rapid-charge from 30% to 80% in around 20 minutes under suitable conditions. The approach is simple in principle: the car can run on electricity for daily driving and switch to hybrid operation for longer trips, without range anxiety.
An SUV Loved by the UK
The record comes as the JAECOO 7 continues to perform strongly in its British launch market. In September 2026 it was reported as Britain’s best-selling new car for the month, and it is the second best-selling new car in the UK so far this year.

Why this matters for Pakistan
The JAECOO J7 SHS-P arrived in Pakistan with the OMODA & JAECOO launch on 1 August 2025 at Expo Centre Lahore, backed by NexGen Auto, part of Nishat Group, a USD 100 million investment and local assembly in Faisalabad. It has since become Pakistan’s No.1 PHEV, and a key reason is the question every Pakistani buyer asks first: what will it cost me to run despite the growing fuel prices?
A plug-in hybrid answers that in a way that suits Pakistani driving. Short daily commutes and school runs in cities like Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad and Faisalabad can be covered largely on electric power, while the petrol engine takes over on motorway journeys and long family trips. That means fewer visits to the fuel pump in a market where fuel prices shape every household budget, and no worry about finding a charger on the way to Murree, Swat or Hunza either.
The record also speaks to a second Pakistani reality: roads that go from city traffic to long motorway stretches to steep mountain passes in a single trip. The Three Peaks challenge combined motorway miles, mountain roads, night driving and bad weather, which is a demanding test of efficiency and reliability. For Pakistani owners who take their J7 to the Northern Areas, as many do, it is encouraging proof that SHS technology performs exceptionally well whenever conditions are tough or challenging.
It also reinforces the confidence behind the J7’s growth in Pakistan. Nishat Group’s reputation for strong after-sales service, dealership reach and customer care, combined with the technology credentials shown on the UK record, gives buyers a clear reason to choose the J7 SHS-P: a proven global product, locally supported by a group that stays with its customers.
