Punjab Announces Internship Program With Rs. 60,000 Monthly Stipend

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced the province’s first comprehensive veterinary internship program, aimed at equipping young veterinary professionals with practical skills while simultaneously supporting the livestock and dairy sectors.

According to an official handout issued on Saturday, the initiative carries an allocated budget of Rs. 600 million and will benefit 1,000 veterinary graduates and para-veterinarians across Punjab.

Under the program, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) graduates recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) will receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 60,000, while para-veterinarians and livestock assistants holding a two-year Livestock Assistant Diploma (LAD) will be paid Rs. 40,000 per month during their internship. Interested candidates can apply through the government’s official job portal at www.jobs.punjab.gov.pk.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said that special quotas had been reserved for Veterinary Assistants, AI Technicians, and Lab Assistants across all 36 districts of Punjab, ensuring equitable opportunities for candidates from every region.

She emphasized that the internship program was designed to provide hands-on training and field exposure for young professionals while also extending animal healthcare and advisory services to farmers at their doorstep.

“The purpose of this initiative is to promote and develop livestock in Punjab, strengthen the dairy sector, and create a skilled workforce,” the Chief Minister stated.

Highlighting the broader economic benefits, Maryam Nawaz added that enhancing milk and meat production would not only improve the livelihoods of farmers but also contribute to boosting Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves through increased exports.

“We want to take full advantage of Punjab’s livestock potential and make the province a hub of livestock and dairy development,” she said. “We stand with farmers today and will continue to support them in the future.”

With this initiative, the Punjab government aims to strengthen the province’s livestock sector, empower young professionals, and provide sustainable solutions for the rural economy.
