Over 60 Schools Destroyed and More than 400 Dam@ged by Floods in KPK

The recent heavy rains and floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have caused serious damage to the education sector. According to official reports, 61 government schools have been completely destroyed, while another 414 have been partially damaged in different parts of the province.

The districts of Dir Lower, Shangla, Haripur, Swat, and Mohmand were among the worst affected. Sadly, the disaster also claimed lives—four teachers, one school staff member, and four students lost their lives, while three other teachers were injured.

To ensure that children’s education does not stop, the education department has announced plans to establish pre-fabricated schools in the affected areas. These temporary schools will help students continue their studies until permanent reconstruction can take place.

Officials also highlighted that government school buildings in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are already fragile because they have been damaged in the past by earthquakes, terrorism, and earlier floods. This makes them especially vulnerable whenever new disasters strike.
