Pakistani Restaurant Thrives in Nanning During 22nd China-ASEAN Expo

Muhammad Umar Javed, owner of Barakah Pakistani Restaurant and CEO of Guangxi Bismilla Catering Co., Ltd., reported a significant boost in business during the expo, with a sharp increase in orders from Muslim visitors and exhibitors from various countries.

“During the Expo, we received almost hundred takeaway orders per day for delivery to the exhibition center—even more than last year,” said the owner. “Each evening after the Expo closed, our restaurant was filled with guests—including exhibitors from Pakistan and other countries—who came to dine in, relax and chat.”

Opened in 2021, Barakah offers an immersive cultural experience featuring traditional Pakistani music, handicrafts and décor. The walls are decorated with paintings depicting iconic Pakistani landscapes and cultural scenes such as majestic mosques, illustrations of daily life and vibrant streets of Pakistani cities. Authentic handicrafts, including traditional bronze and onyx ornaments and embroidered textiles, complement the atmosphere.

“We want our customers to feel as though they are dining in Pakistan,” Umar explained. “All our spices and seasonings are imported directly from Pakistan, and we use original Pakistani basmati rice for our signature rice dishes.”

The restaurant has also built a strong reputation among Chinese customers for its genuine flavors and distinctive cuisine. Popular dishes include the rich and aromatic Butter Chicken, flavorful Shawarma—available in beef, chicken, and cheese varieties—and expertly prepared Biryani.
