India’s cricket captain, Suryakumar Yadav is under investigation by ICC after a complaint filed by PCB. The issue arose from remarks Yadav made following India’s Asia Cup group-stage win over Pakistan on September 14.
According to reports in Indian media, the PCB has accused Yadav of using his post-match comments to bring politics into cricket, something strictly prohibited under ICC’s code of conduct. The governing body has acknowledged the complaint and confirmed that a review process is now underway.
The PCB submitted a detailed letter, insisting that Yadav’s references during his speech violated the principle of neutrality. The letter stated that cricket must remain free of political narratives and argued that the Indian captain’s comments harmed the spirit and reputation of the sport.
The PCB further cautioned that ignoring the matter would risk turning cricket matches into political platforms.
In addition to the remarks, the controversy deepened after reports emerged that Indian players avoided the traditional handshake with their Pakistani counterparts, allegedly on the instructions of the BCCI and Indian authorities. This incident further fueled tensions between the two teams.
The ICC review could lead to disciplinary action if the charge is upheld. Yadav has the choice to accept responsibility or face a formal hearing before the ICC match referee.
For now, the cricketing world awaits the outcome, as the case adds another chapter to the long-standing rivalry between India and Pakistan, this time stretching beyond the boundary line and into the domain of sports ethics.
