WhatsApp has begun rolling out its new Ask Meta AI feature to some users in Pakistan, allowing them to interact directly with Meta’s AI chatbot within chats. The integration means people no longer need to switch apps or open a separate chat to get AI-powered responses, making the process faster and more convenient.
Once activated, the Ask Meta AI icon appears inside the chat screen. Users can type questions, share prompts, or even forward messages and photos directly to Meta AI for instant replies. The responses are visible to everyone in the conversation, whether in private or group chats, giving users quick access to additional information or context.
Beyond simple replies, the AI assistant also supports message summaries. If a user misses a long conversation, WhatsApp can generate a private summary of unread messages that only the individual can view. This helps users catch up without scrolling through lengthy threads.
Meta has confirmed that privacy standards remain intact, as only the content sent directly to Ask Meta AI is processed by the system. All regular messages on WhatsApp continue to be end-to-end encrypted. However, one drawback is that the Ask Meta AI icon cannot be removed once enabled. Users may mute or minimize it, but there is no way to disable the feature entirely.
The rollout is still limited, with only certain devices in Pakistan showing the option. Even phones running the same WhatsApp version may differ, which suggests the feature is being gradually introduced through server-side activation. For now, WhatsApp users in Pakistan may experience staggered access, with broader availability expected in the coming months.
