The National Computer Emergency Response Team (NCERT) has issued an important cybersecurity alert warning citizens across Pakistan about a dangerous malware campaign currently circulating online. The threat comes in the form of a fake PDF editing application named AppSuite PDF Editor, which poses as a legitimate tool but actually contains malicious software designed to steal user data and compromise devices.
According to NCERT, the infected app is being distributed through unofficial websites and links shared via social media or email. Once downloaded, the malware can access sensitive information such as passwords, personal files, and banking details, potentially putting users at serious risk of identity theft or financial fraud.
The advisory urges users to remain cautious when downloading any software from unverified sources. It also stresses the importance of keeping antivirus programs updated, avoiding suspicious links, and ensuring that applications are only downloaded from trusted platforms like Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
Cybersecurity experts have further advised users to immediately uninstall any suspicious apps resembling AppSuite PDF Editor and run a full system scan to detect and remove possible infections. Organizations are also encouraged to inform their employees about the ongoing threat and enhance digital security protocols to prevent breaches.
